Solly's

Fantastic Juke Box. Great place to hang out with friends and catch up. Standard Beer options—PBR, Heiniken, nothing fancy. I personally like a larger beer selection, but it was fine. Good corner bar. If you live near the area, this would be a great one for you standard go-to. For me, I'd go to another bar on a Friday or Saturday, but it fits the bill for a chill night with a small group of friends early in the week.

This bar has had a checkered past — ranging from go-go to punk. Charlie sent me a great past-critique of the bar that is DEFINITELY worth reading for a laugh!

In chatting with Tim about this bar, he brought up a good point, "...there are so many bars with so many good selections in the DC wasteland that a good beer selection is becoming a prerequisite these days and not a welcome surprise." I thought this also rings true for me. Especially with this bar, it would be up there with my favorites but its just lacking depth in the beer.

I was at Solly's on a Monday and the Kitchen wasn't open... which is a great excuse to head to Ben's after you get some brews. Unfortunately, when I went the first floor bar was the only one open so I can't give any insight beyond that. If you've been at other times or have more to add about the upstairs, please do! They have comedians some nights, 11 flat screen TV's, and lots of draws to visit again and give a more well-rounded review.

the deal:

Delay in posting:
After I wrote this post, I was invited to a show by my friend Flo, who is a fabulous musician. Her show was at Solly's, but apparently there was a mishap recently. At
12:20 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 7), a 42-year old man, driving a taxi without a license, crashed into the east-side of the building causing minor injuries to at least 6 people who were transported to a area hospitals. All reports show Solly's staff acted quickly and safely. The bar was open for business Saturday night.
I used DCist and nbcwashington.com as my sources.

Two possible fun facts that could redeem them (in addition to the feeling of sorry I have for them and their patrons upon learning of the recent car accident):

They have Bells' Two Hearted Ale.
They used to be a punk bar.
