James Hoban's

This is a great Irish bar 1 block away from the Dupont Metro Stop. We were able to get a large grouping of tables outside on a beautiful day! They have a good selection of beers to pick from, the price makes it worth going to. The location in very convenient, and the staff was awesome. Our table was constantly being cleared and chairs were being pulled out for us as our party grew bigger without a huge hassle. Though we may have had to wait a few minutes for our beer at times, the waitress still handled the large group well and with a positive attitude, which I find rare. Having outdoor seating was awesome and the people watching was A+.

I thought the Calamari was a little fishy, but Tim loved it! Joel said the sliders are good and the pub food was a pretty good deal during happy hour. Jason also thought the sliders = fantastic, though they were a little heavy. Dawn thought the spinach & aritchoke dip was solid, but not "knock my socks off".

Overall consensus, great value!
I'd say if you go, try the Hoban's Ale, their house beer.

the deal:
M-F 4-7pm
$1 off Irish Drafts
$2 off Domestic Drafts & Bottles
$5 Martinis & Cosomos

$3 off all pub menu items ($2 off fries)

The Science Club

A Bar for those who love Yuengling or wine. There are no beers on draft. The Happy Hour deals are ok, but nothing exceptional (unless, again, you like the Y). The place is set up well for various small to medium size groups. It has the shape of a typical row-house, 3 stories, with alcoves and floors for you friends to socialize on yet have a bit of privacy. There were multiple groups meeting up and having an awesome time!

Thank goodness once my party arrived our waitress was funny and outgoing; the bartender wasn't particularly friendly as I sat by myself for 10 minutes.

Don't wait until the last second to go to the bathroom, its all the way at the top in the back. Food was expensive, and Borys was dismayed that there was no meat. I did get some olives because I have a hard time resisting. They were delicious!

I would classify this bar as: hipster. It has a good vibe once you get settled. But that's just my opinion.

the deals:
M-F, 5-8
$3 Yuengling
$4 Amstel Light, Heineken

some $5 wines, $4 Rails

CM XII: Buffalo Billiards

Not a great deal on happy hour drink prices, but a fun atmosphere with plenty of pool tables, shuffle board tables, dart boards, and a large TVs. Don't let you have a tab at the tables, which was a bummer, and instead had to deal with a waitress instead of walking 3 ft to the bar to order your own drinks... but learning to play shuffle board was worth the trip. This probably won't be one I visit again soon.

4–7pm, Mon–Fri... 1–7pm Sat & Sun
Selected Drafts $3.50
House Wine $3, Rail Drinks $3 & $3.50

Table rates (before 7pm)
1 player: $6

CM VIII: Lauriol Plaze + *bonus* Nolans

Big Turnout, friend of friends + more friends. Drinks were great, esp. the Margs — but complete lack of happy hour specials proved to be too daunting for our group... A good place for a first date (from what I hear) but not good at all for happy hour since there is a partial bar situated in the waiting area.

deals: none.

Nolans: Second bar of the night, just a stumble up the street from Lauriol. Nothing on tap, only bottles... and what cheap bottles they are on Monday Nights! Acceptable Burgers, served with onion rings (... who pref. onion rings to french fries?). We were on two ends of the spectrum, this being the divey, smells of freshly lysol'd bathrooms, no tables except for the few outside to cater to the massive bar crowd. It was what we expected, cheaper then L for sure. Opens up at 6pm so we were the only ones there... this is primarily a night club from what I understand with a big dance floor below, hardly an irish bar.

deals:
$2 domestics (or $3 imports and Smirnoff drinks) from 6-9 Monday–Friday
*no web site either. awesome!*

CM IV: Fox and Hounds

What you may have heard, is indeed true.
The rumors are no fairy tale.

We were served a glass with at least 3 shots of liquor, paired with separate bottle for the mixer. Sitting outside nearest to the street is a must as the people watching can't be beat. Wes gets extra points for post-happy hour shots, and Joel for picking me up in my car in the face of metro catastrophe!

deals:
$3 rail during happy hour, $4 anytime — best deal so far if you are looking to get obliterated.

CM I: The Big Hunt

This was a spunky dive bar, and we loved it. The bartenders were friendly, nice, and most importantly beer-smart. Decor was quirky with lots of hill twists -- political figures and references on the walls. Beer selection was good.

deals:
4–7pm, Mon–Fri

$1 off ALL drinks
$2.50 rail drinks
$2.50 House drafts
Monday also has half price pizzas.
